Sun Siyam Resorts is one of the few genuinely Maldivian-owned hotel groups, founded by Ahmed Siyam Mohamed and built around a simple idea: generous, all-inclusive island holidays with real local character rather than imported luxury. The group now runs five islands in the Maldives plus a beachfront resort in Sri Lanka — and because the resorts differ enormously in size, mood and price, choosing the wrong one is the most common mistake travellers make.
This guide breaks down each property, the transfer reality from Malé, what the all-inclusive plans actually cover, and how we structure Sun Siyam bookings for private travellers, travel agencies and companies.

The Sun Siyam resorts at a glance
- Siyam World — Noonu Atoll, 475 villas, ~40-45 min seaplane. The largest and most activity-driven: floating water park, horse ranch, go-karts, 18+ dining venues and the all-encompassing WOW! Plan. Best for families, groups and long stays.
- Sun Siyam Iru Fushi — Noonu Atoll, ~50 min seaplane. The refined five-star flagship: 221 villas, a large overwater spa, serious dining and a grown-up atmosphere that still welcomes children.
- Sun Siyam Iru Veli — Dhaalu Atoll, domestic flight + speedboat. All-suite, all-pool and intimate; the group's romance island for honeymooners and couples.
- Sun Siyam Olhuveli — South Malé Atoll, ~45 min speedboat. Closest to the airport, with a spectacular sandbank spit, adults-only zones and the group's best kite- and water-sports centre.
- Sun Siyam Vilu Reef — Dhaalu Atoll, domestic flight + speedboat. Compact, lush and excellent value, wrapped by a healthy house reef — a favourite for first-time Maldives visitors and divers.
Siyam World: the all-inclusive that includes everything
Siyam World occupies Dhigurah, an unusually large natural island, and its WOW! Plan is the reason most guests choose it. Beyond meals and drinks it includes the largest floating water park in the Maldives, the only horse ranch at any Maldivian resort, unlimited non-motorised water sports, kids and teens clubs and selected excursions such as sunset dolphin cruises. Villa choice runs from Beach Villas through Beach and Lagoon Pool Villas to the famous Water Villa with Slide and two- and three-bedroom Beach Residences. If your family wants something to do every hour of the day, this is the island.
Sun Siyam Iru Fushi: the polished flagship
Iru Fushi is quieter, greener and more design-led. Deluxe Beach Villas with pools sit under mature palms, while the Sunset Horizon Water Villas run out over the lagoon with uninterrupted sunset aspect. Dining is the differentiator — multiple à la carte venues including Japanese and Italian, regular guest-chef events, and a wine programme that justifies an upgrade to premium all-inclusive. The overwater spa complex is one of the largest in the country. Choose Iru Fushi if you want five-star polish without the scale and buzz of Siyam World.

Sun Siyam Iru Veli: for couples and honeymoons
Iru Veli is the smallest and most private of the Maldivian five. Every accommodation is a suite and every suite has a pool, from Grand Beach Suites with direct sand access to Dolphin and Ocean Suites on stilts over the lagoon. Service is quietly attentive, the island can be walked in minutes and there is no children's programme competing for space. It is the natural pick for honeymoons, anniversaries and any trip where the point is to disconnect. It also pairs beautifully as a second island after a family week at Siyam World.
Sun Siyam Olhuveli: the easiest arrival
Olhuveli's biggest advantage is logistics. A 45-minute speedboat from Velana International Airport means no seaplane timings to plan around, no overnight in Malé, and a same-day arrival even after a late long-haul flight. The island is long and slender with a dramatic sandbank tail, deluxe beach and water villas, two-bedroom beach residences with pools, adults-oriented zones and a strong water-sports and kite centre. For a four- or five-night Maldives add-on to a London or Dubai itinerary, it is usually the most efficient choice we recommend.

Sun Siyam Vilu Reef: value and a real house reef
Vilu Reef is small, dense with vegetation and encircled by a house reef that you can snorkel straight from the beach — something surprisingly few Maldivian resorts still offer. Accommodation spans Beach Villas, Sunset Reef Villas, Aqua Suites and Sun Aqua Pool Villas over the water. Rates sit below the group's flagships, which makes it the best-value entry into an overwater villa holiday, and family and free-transfer offers appear here more often than elsewhere.

Transfers: the detail that decides your itinerary
Transfers in the Maldives are not an afterthought — they shape the whole trip and can add a meaningful amount per person. Seaplanes (Siyam World, Iru Fushi) fly only in daylight, so an arrival after roughly 15:00 local time usually means an overnight in Malé at your own cost unless the stay is planned around it. Domestic flights plus speedboat (Iru Veli, Vilu Reef) are more flexible but involve two legs and a wait. Speedboat-only Olhuveli is the simplest. Seaplane luggage limits are also stricter than international allowances — plan on about 20 kg checked and 5 kg cabin per guest.
How to get the best Sun Siyam rate
- Book long-stay tiers. Seven- and ten-night stays frequently unlock free transfers, a free night or an upgraded meal plan.
- Watch the shoulder weeks. Late April to early May and late November deliver near-dry-season weather at green-season pricing.
- Compare the meal plans properly. Premium all-inclusive often costs less than paying for the same drinks and à la carte covers individually — but not always, and it varies by island.
- Combine two islands. A family week at Siyam World plus three romantic nights at Iru Veli usually prices better through one contracted itinerary than two separate bookings.
- Ask about honeymoon and anniversary terms. The group runs recurring romance offers with in-villa dining, spa credit and room upgrades.
Adding London or Europe to a Maldives trip
Many of our clients reach the Maldives through London, Istanbul or Dubai. As a UK-based destination management company, Britatlas builds the whole journey: a two- or three-night London stopover in Mayfair or Knightsbridge, private guided touring, chauffeured Heathrow transfers, restaurant reservations, connecting business-class flights and the Sun Siyam island stay itself — delivered as one itinerary with one invoice and 24/7 support in flight and on island.
