The Malaysian MotoGP is one of the best-value big weekends on the calendar. Sepang is a proper old-school circuit — long straights, two enormous braking zones, a 15-turn layout that produces genuine overtaking — and Malaysian hospitality, food and hotel prices make the surrounding trip unusually good value compared with the European rounds.

Malaysia MotoGP 2026: dates and weekend schedule

- Dates: Friday 30 October – Sunday 1 November 2026
- Venue: Sepang International Circuit, Selangor — beside Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA)
- Friday: free practice and MotoGP practice sessions
- Saturday: qualifying for all classes plus the MotoGP Sprint in the afternoon
- Sunday: warm-up, Moto3 and Moto2 races, then the MotoGP Grand Prix and podium
Exact session times are published by the promoter closer to the event and can shift; we confirm the current timetable in writing with every quotation. Saturday has become the second-best day to attend thanks to the Sprint — if you can only take one day off work, take Saturday and Sunday.
Sepang grandstands: what you actually see
- Main Grandstand (pit straight) — covered, with the start, the finish, pit stops, the podium and the giant screens. The safest single choice, and the only stand where you feel the whole race narrative.
- Grandstand K1 (Turn 1–2) — the heaviest braking zone on the lap after a 900m straight. Lap-one chaos, late lunges and plenty of contact. Covered.
- Grandstand K2 (Turn 3–4) — the long right-hander and the run down towards Turn 4. Excellent for watching riders set each other up for a pass rather than just completing one.
- Hillstands — grass banking around the outer sections, the cheapest way in and the loudest atmosphere. Uncovered, so plan for both sun and thunderstorms.
- General admission — roam between viewing areas. Perfect for a first visit on a budget, less good if you want a guaranteed seat in the shade.
For groups, we always prioritise seats together in a covered stand over slightly better scattered singles. Twelve people spread across three blocks in 33°C heat is not a group day out.
Tickets or hospitality?
- Three-day grandstand tickets — the core product, and much better value per day than Sunday-only.
- Sunday-only tickets — for guests flying in and out around the race; usually the least efficient way to buy.
- MotoGP VIP Village™ — premium covered seating plus a hosted lounge: buffet dining, drinks, air conditioning, pit-lane walks, rider appearances and paddock access depending on the package tier. In Sepang heat, the air conditioning alone changes the weekend.
- Team garage and paddock experiences — limited allocation, released early and sold out early. Ask at least six months ahead.
- Corporate hosting — private tables or suites for 8–30 guests with a dedicated host, tailored menus and branded collateral if required.
A word on where you buy. Tickets should come from the circuit's official store, the official MotoGP ticket store or an authorised agent. Unofficial resale listings are the source of nearly every barcode problem we are asked to rescue at the gate. Everything we supply is sourced through official or authorised channels and issued before you travel.
Where to stay: Kuala Lumpur or airport-side
- KLCC — Petronas Towers on your doorstep, the best five-star inventory in the city, excellent dining. Our default recommendation for couples and corporate guests.
- Bukit Bintang — nightlife, street food at Jalan Alor and shopping; livelier and generally better value.
- KLIA / Sepang / Putrajaya — 10–30 minutes from the circuit and ideal for early starts, late departures and large groups moving by coach.
- Extensions — Langkawi, Penang or Borneo add three to five nights on the back of the race weekend; Singapore is a short flight away.
Race-weekend hotel rates and airline seats to KUL both firm up months ahead. For groups of ten or more we recommend committing six to nine months out.
Getting to Sepang on race day
- Private chauffeured car or minibus — 45–75 minutes from central KL on Sunday. Pre-agreed drop-off, and a driver who waits after the chequered flag.
- KLIA Express plus shuttle — fast from KL Sentral to the airport, then a circuit shuttle. Cheap, but expect queues both ways.
- Self-drive — possible, though the post-race exit is slow and parking is far from the stands.
Arrive earlier than feels necessary on Sunday. Gates, bag checks and the walk from parking to the stands take longer than the map suggests, and the support races are worth seeing.
