The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands opened in June 2021 and is unlike almost anything else in the country. Designed by the late Kerry Hill Architects, the island is built around a ring: 100 circular villas arranged in a loose necklace around the lagoon, each one with its own pool, and a set of public buildings whose curves echo the shape of an atoll. It is architecture-forward, contemporary and refreshingly un-rustic — no thatch-and-driftwood pastiche here.

It also sits in North Malé Atoll, roughly 45 minutes by speedboat from Velana International Airport. That single fact makes it one of the easiest true five-star resorts in the Maldives to reach: no seaplane, no daylight-only flight window, no forced overnight in Malé for guests landing at midnight.

This guide covers the villas, what you will realistically pay in 2026, the food, the spa, families, the best months to travel and how we structure bookings for private travellers, travel agencies and companies.

The island and the Fari Islands concept

Fari Islands is a small man-made archipelago in North Malé Atoll. The Ritz-Carlton occupies its own private island, while a neighbouring island holds the Fari Marina Village — a harbour with independent restaurants, boutiques and a beach club shared with the other resorts of the cluster. Guests reach it in a couple of minutes by buggy and boat, which gives the stay something most Maldivian islands cannot: somewhere else to go for dinner.

Every one of the 100 villas has its own pool and sundeck over the lagoon or on the sand.

Villas: all 100 have a private pool

There is no entry-level compromise room here — the smallest category is already 168 sqm with a private pool. The line-up runs as follows.

Ocean Pool Villa (168 sqm, 1 bedroom)

The signature circular overwater villa: a round living pavilion, a curved private pool cantilevered over the lagoon, a deep bathtub facing the water, direct lagoon access by ladder and electric curtains that open the whole room to the horizon at the press of a button. Sunrise and sunset orientations are both available — sunset commands a premium.

Beach Pool Villa (170 sqm, 1 bedroom)

The island equivalent: a walled garden, private pool, outdoor shower and a few steps onto the sand. Better for guests who dislike ladders and boats, families with toddlers, and anyone who wants shade and greenery.

Two-bedroom Beach & Ocean Pool Villas

Around 300–370 sqm with two full en-suite bedrooms, a shared living pavilion and a larger pool. The most practical family choice: everyone under one roof, no interconnecting-door lottery.

The Ritz-Carlton Ocean Residence (3 bedrooms)

A three-bedroom overwater residence with an extended deck, oversized pool and dedicated service — used most often by two couples travelling together or multi-generational families.

The Ritz-Carlton Estate

The top of the house: a standalone compound with multiple bedrooms, its own gym, expansive pool deck and a dedicated team, positioned for maximum privacy. Priced on request and typically booked with a private speedboat or seaplane and a bespoke dining programme.

Indicative 2026 rates

Maldivian rates move constantly with occupancy, so treat the table below as planning bands rather than quotes. All figures are per villa per night, room only, before taxes.

What is added on top

Book through Britatlas and we will typically add daily breakfast, a one-category upgrade subject to availability, a resort credit and early check-in/late check-out where the resort allows it — at the same or a lower nightly rate than the public price.

Dining

The resort is not all-inclusive; most guests book bed and breakfast or half board and dip into the à la carte venues.

The Ritz-Carlton Spa and wellness

The spa is one of the most striking buildings in the Maldives: a ring of overwater treatment pods around a circular pool, with a hydrotherapy area, sauna, steam and a dedicated wellness programme. Treatments follow a chakra-based ritual concept, and there is daily yoga, meditation and a well-equipped fitness centre. Book signature treatments before arrival — the overwater couples' pods sell out first.

Things to do

Getting there

Fly into Velana International Airport (MLE). From London, British Airways flies direct to Malé; Emirates, Qatar Airways, Etihad and Turkish Airlines connect through their hubs. On arrival you are met airside, walked to the resort's private lounge and taken by speedboat in around 45 minutes — day or night. That 24-hour transfer window is a genuine advantage over the seaplane resorts, which stop flying at dusk and often force an unplanned night in Malé.

Who it suits — and who it does not

It suits design-minded couples, honeymooners who want contemporary rather than rustic, families needing an easy transfer and a serious kids' programme, and guests who like the reassurance of Ritz- Carlton service standards.

It suits less travellers hunting a world-class house reef directly off the villa — snorkelling here is good but better on excursions — or anyone wanting an inclusive plan with everything covered in one price, where a Sun Siyam or Soneva-style all-inclusive island works out better value.

If you are weighing alternatives, our Sun Siyam Resorts guide and top 10 all-inclusive Maldives resorts cover the all-inclusive end of the market.
